MR. & MRS. QLA, 2007
Bobby and Francis Henry
Bobby and Francis Henry have
driven from Mississippi to virtually every QLA Conference since 1987
in support of their daughter, Suzette, and in support of the Quality
Life Association. That record includes a road trip to Vail,
Colorado. .
Few people in the history of
the organization have contributed as much as these two kind and
caring people.
Bobby has served as photographer
for the QLA Conference and for the Horizons newsletter for many of
those years, snapping an average of 15 rolls of film at every
conference. He has taken approximately 1,800 pictures for us, and
has them developed within hours -- all at his expense – so that QLA
can sell them to its members.
One year he apparently thought
he wasn’t contributing enough so he brought a bushel of sweet
potatoes from his garden for the auction.
His wife, Francis, has donated
enough hand made or home grown auction and raffle items to fill a
gift shop.
Her beautiful, hand sewn quilts
have become a tradition and the grand prize of the conference.
Winning one of her quilts is like winning the lottery. This year
will be her 6th. She has made jams and jellies, crochet
items and candles and things -- all hand made. She and daughter
Suzette have donated hand-made Christmas tree skirts every year for
almost 20 years.
Bobby, Francis: There is no way
that QLA or Horizons can thank you enough for all you have done for
us. Because of you, and in your honor, Horizons has created the
Mr. and Mrs. QLA Award and you are its first recipients. The
award is intended not only to recognize you for your generosity, but
to serve as a reminder to all of us, now and in the future, that QLA
is all about giving and that you are our finest
example.
This is not an annual award. It
is to be given only at the discretion of the Horizons editor, to
couples whose support for QLA and Horizons meet your high standards
for long, continuous, generosity.
